At 16, Poppy Starr is the number one female skateboarder in Australia. The same year, skateboarding is announced as an Olympic sport. Despite her success, Poppy lacks confidence and the fear of having to compromise her values could threaten her chances of success in Tokyo. A coming of age story told over 12 years, Poppy navigates the uncomfortable idea of what it means to be a competitive athlete, the complexities of a relationship with a mum turned manager and finding her place in a male-dominated industry. Overwhelmed, a new relationship helps her discover why she started this in the first place.
"For a sports film to work, it has to appeal to people with little interest in sport. This one works so well because it's about a remarkable young Australian woman who happens to be a champion skateboarder. It’s an inspiring story at a time when we need them.” - The Australian
“Heart burstingly emotional. Edge of your seat, epic drama, setting the scene for the ultimate crescendo of Poppy mounting the podium at the Tokyo (somewhat delayed) 2020 Olympics” - ABC
“It’s a fantastic film and an inspiring story to boot.” - Monster Children
